Hear Today 2018-06-12T16:19:21+00:00

Our Hear Today events are here for you and we have been delighted with the response to date. We have long recognised the importance of having a support network and Hear Today aims to facilitate just that. Hearing loss can be hard to accept and it is often helpful to talk to others who are in a similar position and to realise you are not alone.

Over a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of homemade cake, we encourage people to share their experiences or ask those niggling questions about hearing, in a relaxed , safe environment. Our audiologists understand how it feels to not hear well in noisy situations, to deal with tinnitus and dizziness and to be left out of the conversation, and are there to help. Our monthly drop- in coffee mornings provide a popular, supportive meeting place and each month we look forward to welcoming our regular attendees and newcomers.

Local Events & Festivals

Helping communities to understand their hearing

Our Hear Today events also take us out and about into the community and we have attended many local festivals and events with our mobile audiology unit, fondly called the ‘Happy Hearing Van’. Thame Food Festival, Kop Hill Climb, and the Great British Dog Walks are just a few examples. At such events we are able to offer hearing health checks, visual examinations and provide advice and information on hearing matters.

Hear Today aims to keep the conversation going and encourage social interaction through fun activities like our cookery days and in 2017 we hosted our first Deaf Tennis event. This was very well supported and highlighted that hearing loss shouldn’t prevent you enjoying the sport you love. With the right approach and support so much is possible.

In 2018 we held a Sourdough bread baking day in Chapel Hall, Speen. Under the guidance of an expert baker, our guests had a go at making their own sourdough loaves. This was followed by a relaxing lunch together and the chance to chat with our audiology team and other clients.

To support deaf awareness week in May, we took the Happy Hearing Van to World’s End Garden Centre in Wendover. For the whole week, we were available to talk to people about the importance of looking after their ears and hearing and we gave visual ear checks and hearing tests from the van.
