Clinical Ear Care, as we call it, otherwise known as Wax Removal can be very beneficial to people using hearing aids to increase the usefulness of their aids. We call wax removal Clinical Ear Care as we are able to use a variety of techniques in one session.
These techniques may not all be needed and we would try for Microsuction Ear Wax Removal first.
This is very safe and a more comfortable procedure than syringing. It involves using a sterile suction device to gently remove the wax. Using micro suction allows the user the freedom to avoid contact with the skin in the ear canal, which is where discomfort would arise. Generally the client will not need to use oil in the days beforehand, so its easier all round.
“Ear wax microsuction is performed with the aid of an operating microscope and a finely calibrated suction device, without the introduction of any materials or liquids. Ear wax removal is presently carried out in GP surgeries through ear irrigation, which involves injecting a jet of water into the ear to remove the wax (the old ear syringing method precedes ear irrigation, nowadays not performed anymore). This is not always effective and very often is described as uncomfortable or unpleasant by patients. Microsuction is very well tolerated by the majority of people, gives you fast results hence it is much more effective than the traditional wax removal methods. It is also SAFE, as the physician can see the structures inside your ear. Very rarely people may need wax softening with ear products, commonly olive oil, typically though, most clients manage to have their ears cleared in one session without any wax pre-treatment.”
Ear wax, or “cerumen” as it is known in medical circles, is a good thing to have in our ears. This is because it protects the skin of the human ear canal and it also assists in cleaning and lubrication. To find out more Click Here
