Microsuction wax removal
Aston Hearing
Clinical Ear Care, otherwise known as Wax Removal, can be very beneficial to people using hearing aids to increase the usefulness of their aids. We call wax removal Clinical Ear Care as we are able to use a variety of techniques in one session.
These techniques may not all be needed and we would try for Microsuction Ear Wax Removal first.
This is very safe and a more comfortable procedure than syringing. It involves using a sterile suction device to gently remove the wax. Using microsuction allows the user the freedom to avoid contact with the skin in the ear canal, which is where discomfort would arise. Generally the client will not need to use oil in the days beforehand, so it is easier all round.
Ear wax microsuction is performed with the aid of a specialised microscope and a finely calibrated suction device, without the introduction of any materials or liquids. Ear irrigation is another method of ear wax removal which involves injecting a jet of water into the ear to remove the wax. This is not always effective and very often is described as uncomfortable or unpleasant by patients. Microsuction is very well tolerated by the majority of people and gives fast results hence it is much more effective than the traditional wax removal methods. It is also SAFE, as the physician can see the structures inside your ear. Very rarely people may need wax softening with ear products, commonly olive oil, typically though, most clients manage to have their ears cleared in one session without any wax pre-treatment.
Ear wax, or “cerumen” to use the medical term, is a good thing to have in our ears. This is because it protects the skin of the human ear canal and it also assists in cleaning and lubrication.
